How to be happy during this lockdown?

By Varshith Reddy

Lockdown is the restriction of movement of people in order to control the spread of the corona virus which is treated as the global pandemic. The Government of India has announced lockdown on 25th March 2020 which is bolt from the blue for the entire nation. From then still lock down is being continued for the protection of people from this contagious disease. Now we have entered into a completely different lifestyle in this period.

People are not allowed to go wherever they want except for essentials,  no meetings with friends, relatives, no chance of parties, functions and eating outside food etc.  We all are waiting to return back to our normal lives.  It is an upstill task to spend an entire day or month not stepping outside of homes.  But we can still be happy with our families.

Happiness is a state of mind where positivity plays a key role. In a world full of negative things going around, still we can make it a better place to live. To be happy, one should be strong both physically and mentally.

To be physically strong, our changed lifestyle during this lockdown is the major asset. As people are struck at home, now they can eat healthy food instead of junk food. Another important factor is physical exercise one should not be lazy as they have nothing to do. Lack of physical exercise is the major reason for chronic diseases like heart attack, kidney failure, lung problems etc. Learning and being disciplined always makes you confident and happy. As we have lots of time, we can spend time on knowing foods which are good for our body,  which builds our body, and boasts our immune system. Being disciplined implies to have a properly planned schedule of work, diet, exercise etc.

To be mentally strong, we have to accept the changes around and eliminate negative thinking. For example, sticking on the television for a whole day makes you feel miserable for the events occuring during this pandemic. We can avoid it by watching the news or social media only for a few minutes. Let's take a while and think how many of us have got this much time to spend with our families this closely. We can create fun filled activities to get along well.

Happiness is relatively depends on  ourselves. Always learning new things gives much pleasure. Instead of spending time on social media, we can develop a new hobby which may be a childhood joyful activity, read some good books, learn a new language or learn some painting, cooking,  organic farming or yoga etc. Learning  something new that keeps ourselves busy and creative, if we feed our brains with positivity it changes the entire thought process, we become much better people.

Happiness is seeing our families safe and secure. We can discuss the steps to be taken to curb the spread of virus, life after lock down and social etiquette to be followed. Sitting and talking can remove all the past misunderstandings and helps in bonding together. Happiness depends on the people's mentality. If we are safe and have some food,  clothing and shelter that's a privilege many don't have.  Count all your blessings before the hardships then we can feel much better.

Finally happiness is a simple thing but you have to do lot of hard work to keep it up.
